Road Weather Messaging on Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)

Nearly 300 DMS are deployed across the state and are used for displaying real-time information to warn motorists of incidents, roadwork or congestion downstream that may be a potential safety hazard or may cause delays. Why is this a priority and what are the benefits for the State/County/City? :

Benefits would be to develop an automated system for weather related messages that could potentially improve safety but also ensure weather related messages are timely and accurate which would improve customer trust in the messaging.

Enhancement and Integration of the TeTRIS and TICAS Freeway Performance Tools

This project would integrate the TeTRIS and TICAS Freeway Performance Tools into one system. The Traffic Information & Condition Analysis System (TICAS) was developed for the RTMC several years ago to help extract RTMC freeway data and develop performance measures for the metro freeway system. Why is this a priority and what are the benefits for the State/County/City? :

MnDOT is developing new performance measures to track congestion levels on metro freeways. This tool will allow staff to more quickly access traffic data allowing for more in depth analysis into freeway performance. It will also consolidate existing tools into one.

Construction Project Traffic Impact Analysis Methodology and DTA Model Validation

MnDOT has been working toward better understanding of traffic impacts and Road User Costs associated with reduced system capacity during construction activities. Why is this a priority and what are the benefits for the State/County/City? :

There is more emphasis and desire for MnDOT to minimize traffic impacts relating to construction projects placed on system users. To effectively doe this, we need to continue to refine and improve the tools the improve our capabilities of analyzing the trade offs made between minimizing Road Users Costs and Construction Costs. This project could help us move us toward improving our effectiveness in balancing these tow competing goals.
