The performance of overlays differs by location in the State of Minnesota. Pavement failures, including potholes, occur in a broad range of service life, from 10 to 20 years. Research is needed to better understand the broad range of overlay performance including contribution factors such as mix design.
State Aid Pre-Screening Meeting input:
Performance of overlays differs by location. In some instances, overlays will create potholes in 10 years and others develop in 20 years. What is it that makes it different? Why is one performing and another one not? Can we look at the tests and figure out whether it is a mixture issues or something else?
