Safety Rest Area Advance Signing Enhancements Phase 2 - Design

This is Phase 2 of the Safety Rest Area Advance Signing Enhancements project completed in the summer of 2013. The project would include the development of signage plans and any needed requests for experimentation from FHWA to implement a pilot project on Minnesota Interstates. The project would convey to travelers key amenities available at upcoming rest areas using highway symbols and/or slat signs designed in Phase 1 of this project. The signs would be installed approximately one and a half miles in advance of the rest area entrance ramps.

MnDOT survey data show that the public values information on the roadways; it helps in their decision-making. And if more travelers take (perhaps needed) breaks at an RSA because something grabs their eye on our signage, all the better for roadway safety.
